Don’t miss Northeast Pennsylvania’s largest celebration of culture and cuisine! La Festa Italiana returns to Downtown Scranton’s Courthouse Square Saturday, August 31 through Monday, September 2, 2013.
The three-day festival is an end-of-summer tradition that annually attracts thousands of visitors. Commemorating 38 years of great food, music and fun, La Festa Italiana 2013 will feature time-honored traditions and exciting new events.
Festivities begin with the James R. Minicozzi Memorial 5K Run/Walk on Saturday morning, and continue with music and merriment all weekend. Approximately 80 vendors are expected to exhibit at this year’s event, bringing a wide variety of tempting foods and goods.
Continuous live entertainment will be presented on two stages. Dancers, singers, musicians, magicians and ensembles will delight festival guests during free performances throughout the weekend. Featured performer Andy DiMino, a crowd-pleasing Dean Martin impersonator, will take the stage on Monday, September 2 at 7:30 p.m.
Additional highlights include the traditional Mass in Italian on Sunday morning, fireworks on Sunday night, and a Cannoli-Eating Contest on Monday afternoon.
Festival guests are also invited to attend Railfest 2013 at the nearby Steamtown National Historic Site on August 31 and September 1. Shuttle transportation will be provided between the two events.
La Festa Italiana is free and open to the public. Hours of operation are from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday. For additional information, visit www.lafestaitaliana.org or call (570) 348-4921.
