Pancakes and Propellers planned for Memorial Day Weekend in the Poconos

MPO Fly In Drive In2Flippin’ flapjacks and flyin’ high are on this year’s Memorial Day weekend agenda as aviation enthusiasts make plans to take flight at the Aviation Day and Fly-In Drive-In Breakfast set for May 25 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pocono Mountains Municipal Airport.

Nineteen years and still going strong, the annual gathering that started with intentions of introducing the wonders of aviation to the public through tours of the facility along with airplane and helicopter rides; has evolved to become one of its sponsor, Mt. Pocono Rotary’s, largest fundraisers.

Each year the Rotary focuses on worthy causes throughout the community. As we take part in the tradition of recognizing men and women who serve our country; the group agreed proceeds should benefit two area organizations the Valor Clinic for Homeless Vets and Monroe County Joint Veteran’s Honor Guard.

Valor steps in with shelter and assistance to military personnel that fall upon hard times as they return from duty. MCJVHG provides honorable recognition during funerals for members of our armed forces that pass.

Event Co-Chair, Vern Moyer comments, “It is appropriate that we are honoring two military related organizations on Memorial Day Weekend with the day’s activities including a special Memorial Day Ceremony.”

Admission is free with military equipment, motorcycle and antique car displays, activities for the kids, along with various sights to see including a 1p.m.parachute demonstration and Memorial Day Ceremony.

Rotarians will be serving up morning delicacies during the All You Can Eat breakfast at $10 for adults and kids under 12 $6. Airplane and helicopter rides bring in additional dollars for the cause as Moyer Aviation and Hi-Tech Helicopters donate the airborne excursions.

Moyer praises the generosity of all that are contributing toward the day’s festivities inviting others to follow suit stating, “We are still offering sponsorships and welcome area businesses to assist with raising money for these worthy causes.”
