The consensus is in- most Dads are content with a lounge chair, tall glass of lemonade (or other libation) and a thick juicy steak on the grill to fulfill their Father’s Day wishes. For the most part families are eager to oblige; yet the temptation of encouraging Pop to avoid the plop can be too much to endure.
As June 15 rapidly approaches and a wealth of excitement surrounds the area with inviting options for the entire family to enjoy; there are three simple rules to follow in hopes of aiding his day along the path to top notch status:
Rule #1: Avoid gifts that include the words “flora” and “dazzling.” Wrap up some creepy crawlers from Woehrle’s Bait Shop in Mount Pocono then head off to one of the Pocono Mountain’s popular lakes. Paradise Fishing Preserve in Paradise Valley and Big Brown Fish & Pay Lakes in Effort let him cast off with “no license required.” Priding themselves as the spot “Where the fish are always biting”; Dad can still relax while he reels in a keeper.
Rule #2: Give him a surprise when he walks in the door. Send him off for a round of golf while you setup a shady spot in the hammock where he can smell the aroma of coals searing some carnivorous eats. The popular manicured grounds at Pocono Manor ranks high as one of this area’s favorites.
Rule #3: Let this be the day when you agree he is right. While this one may be a toughie for some, remember this is his time to shine. If he’s all geared up for the ambiance of a historic tour through Lackawanna Coal Mine over a stroll along the shore praise him on his wise decision. After all, you can always say it was his idea to spend the holiday in the Pocono Mountains with its limitless possibilities for Father’s Day fun!
As this collection of suggestions serve merely as guides, remember the words of one area Dad in response to the question asking,”What is your ideal day?”
“I just want them not to forget!” he said with sly snicker and clever wink.
Happy Father’s Day from This Week and beyond…
