“I wanted to live while I was working not work to live,” describes Pilot and Certified Flight Instructor Matt Reiche of the career path he chose after taking a Demo Flight with Hi-Tech Helicopters
Now piloting with the Mount Pocono Corporation, he gets to enjoy living each day to the fullest providing private tours and flight instruction to those who are eager to “get their hands on the controls.”
Some may sway toward leaving the “stick time” to the professionals like Matt while they relax and soak up the beautiful Pocono scenery with a Private Tour; others get hooked after taking Hi Tech’s Discovery Flight returning for a full course serving of instruction.
Owner/CEO John Kerrick sharing Reiche’s passion for flight started Hi-Tech out of the Pocono Mountains Municipal Airport off Route 611 almost 10 years ago with a second facility out of Elkin Municipal Airport on Camp Road in Elkin North Carolina four years later. He tells of the growing interest by many to learn the skill, as well as, the unwavering desire by many former military and professional pilots to see if they “can still hover.”
Reiche goes on to detail requirements leading to the FAA’s 40 hour minimum logged flight time. He lists ground instruction and written tests students take before taking the controls solo “usually after 20 hours” in the air.
He encourages all to start off with a 1/2 hour Private Tour graduating into a Discovery Flight then take the time to train for flight by calling (570) 839-0550 or visiting www.HiTechHelicopters.net.
