Labor Day weekend make tracks to Steamtown’s Railfest 2014 for a Celebration of Railroading Saturday, August 30 and Sunday, August 31 in Scranton. Open each day 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; a $7 admission fee covers activities and programs including equipment displays, special shop demonstrations and train rides of all sorts.
From short train treks using steam powered engines, like in the Caboose Experience or the $5 Scranton or Nay Aug Limited rides; to the popular Moscow Excursion offering a three hour trip to and from Moscow Station. Climb all aboard cars run by a historic diesel locomotive for this longer ride with “photo run-bys” many enjoy.
ME fares run $24 for adults, seniors 62 and up are $22 with kids age 6 to 15 $17. All include the park’s daily entrance fee. There’s no charge for little engineers age 5 and under.
How about taking a turn on manpowered transport of days done by? Hand, also known as, Pump Cars will be in the Turntable Plaza offering guests the chance to take the method track workers used to inspect railroad right of ways.
Whether on the tracks or off enjoying music while strolling through the many displays, Railfest holds the ticket to a wondrous world engineered for fun!
