Visit Grey Towers National Historic Site Friday, October 31 for a chilling night of 19th century entertainment. Grey Towers Heritage Association and the US Forest Service at Grey Towers present A Night with Poe: a series of Halloween dramatic readings by the American Readers Theatre Company.
Dramatic readings, a common form of entertainment for 19th century families, persist in igniting the ominous sense of trepidation sought after by guests yearning for Halloween thrills. Talented performers’ pitched tones matched by cleverly orchestrated movement compliment these select works by Poe. The Pinchot family, original residents of Grey Towers, included some of these literary masterpieces in their own personal library collection.
Tickets for the evening’s excitement cost $20 per guest. Interested parties may purchase tickets at Grey Towers or online.
Eager to invite visitors for more weekend fun, Grey Towers will also host a Cemetery Walk on Saturday, November 1 at 1:30 p.m. Laurel Hill Cemetery, Milford’s original town graveyard, lies on the grounds of Grey Towers. Its 112 monuments range from undressed fieldstone markers to elaborate obelisks. Discover town history during this leisurely autumn stroll. Regular tour fees apply.
