“In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.” —John Muir
Miles of trails wind past waterfalls, through dense forests, around glacial lakes and up steep slopes; the Pocono Mountains takes hiking to magnificent scenic heights perfect for all levels. Some may enjoy a leisurely stroll through Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area close to Shawnee on Delaware or along the floating boardwalks to explore the wetlands of Tannersville Cranberry Bog; while others crave the challenge of Big Pocono State Park, with over 1,300 acres of rugged terrain on the summit and slopes of Camelback Mountain. There’s an ideal trek for all to tackle this fall.
Did somebody say fall? Autumn equals awesome at Bushkill Falls—one of Pennsylvania’s most beautiful and dramatic natural sights makes a delightful daytrip. Two streams flowing down the mountainside feed eight waterfalls cascading over the primeval rocks and slate walls that form the uplands of the Pocono Mountains. Trails and bridges wind through the area offering incredible views.
Austin T. Blakeslee Natural Area with nearly 130 acres of protected land also features waterfalls creating deep pools bordered by rock strewn banks. A walk along the creek trail leads you to a lookout for an outstanding view of the falls.
The wonders of nature await…
