Earth Day LGEarth Day—a time to celebrate nature and unite in support of the environment. First observed in the United States over 45 years ago, the day of dedication has evolved to become a world-wide initiative. With festivities surrounding Earth Day, April 22, educating and engaging global appreciation, where better to get out and enjoy the great outdoors than the Pocono Mountains.

Local organizations join centers, parks and preserves offering public programs to honor Mother Nature and promote environmental protection. Pinpointing places across the region ideally with various dates to accommodate the reason, helps oblige those eager to soak in the sights, sounds and sensations.

Hawley Earthfest is set for April 22 to 24 with a variety of activities for all! This weekend long celebration filled with family-friendly events is open to the public. Highlights include a Wild Hawley Parade and Environmental Expo with hands-on activities, demonstrations and more to explore the GREAT outdoors!

Monroe County Conservation District along with the Monroe Campus of Northampton Community College consider Saturday, April 23 the ideal opportunity to celebrate 20 years of conservation success with an “organized county-wide event” 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Tannersville. Expect a day filled with exhibits, guest speakers, live musical entertainment and more. There’s even an electronics recycling and tire amnesty!

Greentown’s Promised Land State Park rings in Earth Day homage 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 23 with a Rain Barrels and Skunks program at Masker Museum. Join in the fun of painting a rain barrel with a free live skunk program to boot at noon!
